Deadlines loom for WIA Demeter Award of Excellence and Student Scholarships

TOPSFIELD, June 28, 2023 – Women in Agribusiness (WIA) continues to encourages participation in the ag sector with its Student Scholarships and Women in Agribusiness Demeter Award of Excellence, both of which have deadlines for submission over the next week.


The deadline to apply for a Student Scholarship to attend the 2023 Women in Agribusiness Summit is Saturday, July 1, while the last day to submit nominations for the WIA Demeter Award of Excellence is Friday, July 14.

Student Scholarships, which give young women the opportunity to make important industry connections, see the many career options available in the agribusiness sector, and learn the trends and issues facing the industry today, are provided by generous sponsors, who defray the cost of registration for a female student wishing to attend the WIA Summit.


Applicants must be full-time junior or senior level undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral candidate students attending an accredited college or university. See rules and application for a scholarship here.


Recipients of the Demeter Award of Excellence, which has recognized notable achievers in the ag sector since 2013, include more than two dozen exceptional women. These recipients have included women who have started women’s leadership groups or achieved the status as the first woman president of global agribusiness operations, or led mission-critical P&L projects, as well as demonstrated innovation in developing new programs and launching gender diversity initiatives. Up to three recipients will be chosen for the 2023 award. Each recipient will be notified and invited to accept the award at the 2023 Women in Agribusiness Summit, which will take place this year in Nashville, September 26-28.


Criteria for nomination includes:

  1. Woman with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the ag and/or food industry;

  2. Woman who is a positive example to other women in the industry;

  3. Woman who breaks down barriers and serves as a resource for others; and

  4. Woman who consistently exemplifies professionalism.

The nomination form is a simple, one-page submission, and is available on the Women in Agribusiness website. There is no limit to the number of entries, and self-nominations are permissible.
